The Polygon team announced via X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday that the POL token upgrade is now live on the Ethereum mainnet. The team released Polygon 2.0 this summer, and it is a roadmap for scaling Ethereum to build the Value Layer of the Internet. POL unlocks that future.
Polygon explained that POL is a next-generation token that can power a vast ecosystem of ZK-based L2 chains. It does that via a native re-staking protocol that allows POL holders to validate multiple chains and perform multiple roles on each of those chains, turning POL into a hyperproductive token.
POL’s upgrade launching on the Ethereum mainnet is a major milestone and is the result of months of development, extensive community consultation and a successful testnet launch.
Polygon (previously Matic Network) is the first well-structured, easy-to-use platform for Ethereum scaling and infrastructure development. Its core component is Polygon SDK, a modular, flexible framework that supports building multiple types of applications. MATIC is up by 1% in the last 24 hours and is currently trading at $0.6395.
