Gaming blockchain Oasys has entered into an exclusive partnership with Edia, becoming the exclusive distributor for all 139 retro game IP titles Edia owns in the Web3 and global markets.

Gaming blockchain Oasys announced on Wednesday, July 10th, that it has entered into an exclusive partnership with Edia Corporation, a holder of 139 retro game intellectual property (IP).

In a press release shared with Cryptowisser, Oasys said as a result of this partnership, it will onboard a new user base to Web3 gaming by becoming the exclusive distributor for all 139 retro game IP titles Edia owns in the Web3 and global markets.

The partnership will also see Oasys and Edia work towards onboarding more mainstream gamers to web3 by using retro game IP to create new games on blockchain, including Oasys infrastructure. All 139 retro game IPs held by Edia will be available for Oasys to explore with the aim of recreating them for web3.

Furthermore, Edia will be in charge of public relations and marketing activities using its retro gaming IPs and blockchain technology. The move will help raise awareness of the opportunities available within web3 for combining classic characters and titles with blockchain technology.

Oasys added that its partnership with Edia will pave the way for a new generation of gamers to have access to retro games and iconic characters from the 80s and 90s.  Edia holds the IP for popular titles like Gaiares, a horizontal-scrolling shooter originally released in 1990. First issued as a cartridge game on Genesis, Gaiares can be recreated as a blockchain game.

In addition to that, Edia also holds the IPs to several classic 80s games released in Japan, Europe, and North America. The classic fantasy and fighting games will be re-released in collaboration with Oasys. Oasys added that the games will retain their original appeal and gameplay while improving the gaming experience and making it more interactive to appeal to web3 gamers.

Oasys is a game-optimized blockchain that offers a highly scalable Layer 1 hub and specialized Layer 2 using Ethereum’s Layer 2 scaling solution. The ecosystem provides game developers with a secure and scalable blockchain infrastructure for creating more efficient, secure, and interoperable games. Among Oasys’ validators are leaders in gaming and Web3, such as SEGA, Ubisoft, and Yield Guild Games, who act as initial validators in our Proof-of-Stake (PoS) based blockchain.

Meanwhile, Edia has been around since 1999 and has been involved in the planning, development, and operation of content and services. Since its launch, the company has provided a wide range of entertainment content, including games for home video game consoles and smartphones, and MAPLUS Chara de Navi, which combines voice actors and navigation systems. The company will further develop new services and expand its business while taking on new challenges as a comprehensive entertainment company, such as the overseas development of IP and games and the provision of content to the NFT and Metaverse when the time is right in the midst of the trend towards Web3.
