Bitmine's $16.4B Ethereum Stash Now Holds Nearly 5% of All ETH

TL;DR

  • Bitmine acquired 15,112 ETH last week, increasing its holdings to 6,016,414 tokens.

  • The treasury is worth approximately $16.4 billion at the company’s reference price of $2,726 per ETH.

  • Its holdings represent about 4.9% of Ethereum’s reported 122.1 million token supply.

  • Approximately 84% of its ETH is staked, generating projected annualized revenue of $363 million.

Bitmine Expands Its Ethereum Holdings

Bitmine Immersion Technologies increased its Ethereum treasury to 6,016,414 ETH after purchasing another 15,112 tokens over the past week, the company announced Monday.

At its reference price of $2,726 per token, the holdings are valued at approximately $16.4 billion. The company said its balance represents about 4.9% of Ethereum’s 122.1 million token supply.

The latest purchase adds to an already substantial position, increasing Bitmine’s exposure to both ETH’s market performance and the income available through staking.

Its overall crypto, cash, and other holdings totaled $17.4 billion as of Oct. 4. Ethereum accounts for the overwhelming majority of that reported balance, making changes in ETH’s price particularly important to the treasury’s market value.

The valuation is a snapshot rather than a fixed amount. Bitmine’s holdings rise or fall in dollar terms as Ethereum trades, even when the number of tokens remains unchanged.

Staked ETH Represents 84% of the Treasury

Bitmine reported that 5,067,309 ETH were staked through its MAVAN platform and external staking partners.

Those tokens were valued at approximately $13.8 billion and represented roughly 84% of the company’s total Ethereum holdings. The remaining balance was outside the reported staking allocation.

Staking allows ETH holders to earn rewards by participating in Ethereum’s transaction-validation and network-security process. For Bitmine, it provides an income stream alongside its direct exposure to the cryptocurrency.

The company projected annualized staking revenue of $363 million, using a seven-day annualized yield of 2.63%.

That projection reflects an extrapolation from a recent yield reading. It is not revenue already earned over a full year, and actual results will depend on staking conditions, the amount deployed, and ETH’s market value.

Beyond Ethereum, Bitmine disclosed holdings of 214 bitcoin, a $180 million stake in Beast Industries and a $117 million stake in Eightco Holdings.

Cash and marketable securities totaled $643 million. Together with its Ethereum treasury, those assets formed the company’s reported $17.4 billion in combined holdings. The disclosure gives investors a broader view of its assets, although ETH remains the dominant component.

The cash and securities balance also provides a separate measure of liquidity from the market value of its cryptocurrencies and corporate investments.

The company’s update therefore covers two distinct aspects of its strategy: continued Ethereum accumulation and the management of assets held alongside that position.

Tom Lee Highlights Ethereum’s Third-Quarter Performance

Chairman Tom Lee reiterated Bitmine’s positive view of Ethereum, pointing to its performance against traditional markets during the third quarter.

Lee said ETH outperformed the S&P 500 by 6,832 basis points, or 68.32 percentage points, over that period.

He described the result as notable given several macroeconomic pressures, including a hawkish Federal Reserve, rising oil prices, higher global bond yields and tighter financial conditions.

His comments explain the company’s continued conviction, but the historical outperformance does not establish how Ethereum will perform in subsequent quarters.

Ethereum is trading around $2,694 on Tuesday, down approximately 1%. That market quote differs slightly from the $2,726 reference price used to value Bitmine’s holdings.

ETH had gained more than 10% over the preceding month and more than 50% over three months.

Bitmine shares, meanwhile, closed Friday at $26.27, down 1.72%. The stock and cryptocurrency figures cover different trading periods and should not be read as a direct same-session comparison.

The latest update leaves Bitmine with a larger Ethereum treasury and a substantial staking allocation, while its reported asset values remain closely tied to ETH’s price.
