On Wednesday, Aave Labs announced via X that Aave v4 has officially launched on the Avalanche blockchain. Aave has been deployed on Avalanche since 2021, making it one of the most proven networks in the Aave ecosystem.
This deployment launches with a Core Liquidity Hub and a Main market, AVAX Correlated market, and Forex market.
The deployment's initial list of supported assets includes AVAX, sAVAX, BTC.b, WETH.e, USDC, USDT, and EURC. V4 enables specialized lending hubs with tailored risk controls & deep shared liquidity.
Aave is a decentralized finance protocol that allows people to lend and borrow crypto. Lenders earn interest by depositing digital assets into specially created liquidity pools. Borrowers can then use their crypto as collateral to take out a flash loan using this liquidity.
Aave (which means “ghost” in Finnish) was originally known as ETHLend when it launched in November 2017, but the rebranding to Aave happened in September 2018. (This helps explain why this token’s ticker is so different from its name!)
AAVE provides holders with discounted fees on the platform, and it also serves as a governance token — giving owners a say in the future development of the protocol.
Aave protocol is a decentralized, open-source, and non-custodial money market protocol. Depositors earn interest by providing liquidity to lending pools, while borrowers can obtain overcollateralized loans by using the liquidity from these pools. AAVE is trading at $94.53 per token, down 3.4% in the last 24 hours.
The project allows people to borrow and lend in about 20 cryptocurrencies, meaning that users have a greater amount of choice. One of Aave’s flagship products is “flash loans,” which have been billed as the first uncollateralized loan option in the DeFi space. There’s a catch: they must be paid back within the same transaction.
Avalanche is an open-source platform for launching Decentralized Finance (DeFi) applications and enterprise blockchain deployments in an interoperable, highly scalable ecosystem. Avalanche is a layer one blockchain that functions as a platform for decentralized applications and custom blockchain networks. It is one of Ethereum’s rivals, aiming to unseat Ethereum as the most popular blockchain for smart contracts. It aims to do so by having a higher transaction output of up to 6,500 transactions per second while not compromising scalability.
This is made possible by Avalanche’s unique architecture. The Avalanche network consists of three individual blockchains: the X-Chain, C-Chain, and P-Chain. Each chain has a distinct purpose, which is radically different from the approach Bitcoin and Ethereum use, namely, having all nodes validate all transactions. Avalanche blockchains even use different consensus mechanisms based on their use cases.
AVAX is down 1.2% today and currently trades at $6.58 per coin.
