Strategy Grows Cash Reserve to $4.8B While Bitcoin Holdings Stay Frozen

TL;DR

  • Strategy raised $333.7 million by selling 3.458 million MSTR shares last week.

  • The company directed $149.1 million to its USD Reserve, increasing the total to $4.8 billion.

  • Strategy spent $132.2 million repurchasing STRC preferred shares and $52.4 million funding STRC dividends.

  • Its Bitcoin holdings remained unchanged at 840,447 BTC.

Bitcoin treasury company Strategy (MSTR) increased its USD Reserve to $4.8 billion after raising $333.7 million through common-stock sales, according to a Form 8-K filing submitted on Monday.

The company used part of the proceeds to fund preferred-stock dividends and repurchase STRC shares. Strategy did not buy or sell Bitcoin during the week, leaving its holdings unchanged at 840,447 BTC.

Strategy Raises $333.7 Million Through MSTR Sales

Strategy sold approximately 3.458 million shares of its Class A common stock last week, generating net proceeds of $333.7 million.

The firm allocated $52.4 million to fund dividend payments on its STRC preferred stock. It used another $132.2 million to repurchase STRC shares under its Digital Credit Securities Repurchase Program.

Strategy directed the remaining $149.1 million to its USD Reserve, increasing the reserve’s total value to $4.8 billion.

The cash reserve provides the company with additional liquidity to meet financial obligations, including preferred-stock dividends, while reducing its need to sell Bitcoin during unfavorable market conditions.

Strategy repurchased approximately 1.388 million STRC preferred shares for an aggregate price of $132.2 million during the period.

Following the transactions, the company has $653 million remaining under its preferred-stock repurchase authorization. Strategy also retains $1 billion in available capacity under its MSTR common-stock repurchase program.

The simultaneous sale of MSTR shares and repurchase of STRC stock reflects the company’s active management of its capital structure. While common-stock sales raised liquidity, the STRC purchases reduced the amount of preferred shares outstanding.

Bitcoin Holdings Remain at 840,447 BTC

Strategy did not purchase or sell any Bitcoin last week, maintaining its treasury at 840,447 BTC.

The decision marks a pause in the firm’s Bitcoin selling activity as it prioritizes cash reserves, dividend obligations, and preferred-stock repurchases.

Although Strategy remains closely associated with its aggressive Bitcoin accumulation strategy, the expanded USD Reserve gives the company greater financial flexibility and may help it manage obligations without liquidating its digital-asset holdings.

Strategy’s Bitcoin-focused treasury model continues to attract scrutiny. MSCI proposed new eligibility rules on Friday that could exclude companies resembling non-operating entities from its Global Investable Market Indexes.

Strategy is among three existing constituents of the MSCI All Country World Investable Market Index that could be removed following an assessment period.

An exclusion could affect demand for MSTR shares from funds that track MSCI indexes. However, the proposal has not been finalized, and its eventual effect on Strategy remains uncertain.
