  • The purchase raised its holdings to 846,000 BTC, acquired for a total of about $63.8 billion.

Strategy acquired another 950 bitcoin for approximately $75.7 million between Sept. 14 and Sept. 20, according to a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

The company paid an average of $79,670 per bitcoin in the latest purchase. Its total holdings now stand at 846,000 BTC, acquired at an average price of $75,416 per coin. Strategy’s cumulative purchase cost is approximately $63.8 billion, including fees and expenses.

At the bitcoin price used in the report, those holdings were worth around $71.9 billion. That puts Strategy’s unrealized gain at roughly $8.1 billion. The company holds bitcoin equivalent to just over 4% of the cryptocurrency’s fixed 21 million supply cap.

Company Uses Cash for Bitcoin and Share Repurchases

Strategy funded the latest bitcoin purchase from its USD Cash balance. During the same period, it repurchased approximately 1.77 million shares of its STRC preferred stock for about $174 million.

The company also used $57.4 million from its USD Reserve to pay preferred-stock dividends and interest on outstanding debt.

As of Sept. 20, Strategy reported a USD Reserve balance of $5.04 billion and a separate USD Cash balance of $1.05 billion. Those balances remain relevant to its ability to meet financial obligations and fund further purchases.

Strategy co-founder and executive chairman Michael Saylor hinted at the acquisition on Sunday, posting a chart of the company’s bitcoin purchases on X with the caption, “A little more orange.”

Similar posts have often preceded Strategy’s purchase announcements. Its holdings had remained steady in recent weeks, making the latest addition a return to buying.

Strategy remains the largest corporate bitcoin holder by a wide margin. Bitcoin Treasuries data identifies 196 public companies pursuing some form of bitcoin acquisition strategy. The next four largest holders listed in the report each hold fewer than 44,000 BTC.

Strategy Shares Outpace Bitcoin for the Week

Strategy shares rose 16.4% last week to close Friday at $153.92, while bitcoin gained 5.3% over the same period.

The stock’s recovery brought it back to roughly flat for the year, according to the report, although it remained 54.2% below its level a year earlier. Its performance continues to reflect investors’ exposure to both bitcoin’s price and Strategy’s financing decisions.
