Keyrock Acquires BlockFills’ Institutional Crypto Business to Expand Derivatives and Trading Services

TL;DR

  • Keyrock has acquired the trading and brokerage assets of BlockFills’ institutional digital asset business.

  • The deal expands Keyrock’s institutional offerings with new clients, trading technology, and derivatives expertise.

  • The acquisition strengthens Keyrock’s regulatory footprint through entities in the Cayman Islands and the U.K., pending approval.

Digital asset services firm Keyrock has completed the acquisition of the trading and brokerage assets of BlockFills’ institutional digital asset business, strengthening its position in the rapidly expanding institutional cryptocurrency market.

The transaction enhances Keyrock’s capabilities across institutional trading, derivatives, and brokerage services by adding BlockFills’ client relationships, proprietary trading technology, and expertise in digital asset derivatives.

Acquisition Expands Institutional Trading Capabilities

The Brussels-based company said the acquisition complements its existing suite of institutional services, which includes market-making, Over-the-counter (OTC) trading, crypto options and derivatives, digital asset lending and credit solutions, on-chain services, and asset management

By integrating BlockFills’ infrastructure and institutional client base, Keyrock aims to offer more comprehensive trading solutions backed by its balance sheet and global regulatory framework.

The acquisition follows reports in June that Keyrock was in advanced talks to purchase the Chicago-based crypto trading and lending firm.

According to bankruptcy filings, Keyrock agreed to pay $3.25 million for substantially all of BlockFills’ assets while assuming selected liabilities, customer relationships, proprietary technology, and certain equity interests.

The transaction also broadens Keyrock’s regulatory presence. Following the acquisition, the company gains access to a Cayman Islands Monetary Authority (CIMA)-registered entity while also pursuing the acquisition of a Financial Conduct Authority (FCA)-authorized entity in the United Kingdom, subject to regulatory approval.

The expanded regulatory structure is expected to support Keyrock’s growing institutional client base and strengthen its ability to offer compliant digital asset services across multiple jurisdictions.

Experienced Derivatives Team Joins Keyrock

As part of the deal, several senior executives from BlockFills will join Keyrock.

Among them are:

  • Perry Parker, a former Goldman Sachs and Deutsche Bank executive who previously led BlockFills’ institutional options business.

  • Dan Schak, who oversaw risk management and trading operations.

The broader trading, operations, and commercial teams from BlockFills will also become part of Keyrock as the businesses are integrated.

Keyrock said the integration will take place in phases, with clients receiving updates as new services become available.

The acquisition significantly strengthens one of the firm's fastest-growing business segments—digital asset derivatives—at a time when institutional investors are increasingly seeking sophisticated crypto trading products such as options, structured products, and advanced execution services.

As institutional participation in digital assets continues to accelerate, the acquisition positions Keyrock to compete more aggressively in the growing market for professional crypto trading and brokerage services.
