In its press release, Arjun Sethi, co-CEO of Kraken, stated that,
“Securing a license from the Central Bank of Ireland, with its long heritage and experience as a rigorous financial regulator, isn’t just about compliance. It’s a powerful signal of Kraken’s commitment to expanding the crypto ecosystem through responsible innovation.”
Kraken added that this license adds to the company’s compliance efforts in Europe, where it also holds virtual asset service provider registrations in Ireland, Belgium, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, and Spain.
The MiCA regulation went into full effect in December 2024 and comprises of comprehensive guidelines and regulations for crypto assets across the European Union trading bloc.
Kraken’s latest milestone comes a week after Coinbase obtained its MiCA license in Luxembourg. Another U.S.-based crypto exchange, Gemini, is also in the process of obtaining its MiCA license in Malta.
