Zcash Drops 7% as $1B in Volume Hits Amid NU7 Upgrade Watch

Zcash falls 7% as volume surges and traders watch $1,200 support, with NU7 testing offers a potential catalyst, and deeper downside risk near $1,000.

Zcash Drops 7% as $1B in Volume Hits Amid NU7 Upgrade Watch

TL;DR

  • Zcash declined 7% over 24 hours as trading volume jumped 90% to more than $1 billion.

  • ZEC rebounded from around $1,150 but encountered selling pressure near $1,300.

  • The report says NU7 is undergoing testnet evaluation, with an October 20 readiness decision and a possible November 5 rollout.

  • Losing $1,200 could expose recent lows, while a deeper decline toward $1,000 would put the recovery under greater pressure.

Zcash fell 7% over the past 24 hours as its recovery encountered resistance and traders assessed the outlook for the network’s NU7 upgrade.

Trading volume rose approximately 90% to more than $1 billion, equivalent to over 7% of ZEC’s circulating market capitalization. Higher activity alongside falling prices suggests an active sell-off, although volume alone does not establish its cause.

The token recently rebounded from around $1,150 before meeting a sell wall near $1,300.

Broader Liquidations and Inflation Data Shape Sentiment

The pullback came amid broader crypto market weakness, with long liquidations exceeding $300 million across the market, according to CoinGlass figures cited in the report.

Those forced closures indicate losses among traders positioned for higher prices, rather than directly measuring new bearish bets.

Attention is also turning to Wednesday’s U.S. inflation release. The figures could alter expectations for Federal Reserve policy and generate volatility across cryptocurrencies.

The expectations for a later rate hike are supportive, while persistent Middle East tensions continue to constrain risk appetite.

NU7 Upgrade Offers a Potential Network Catalyst

According to market reports, NU7 is being evaluated on Zcash’s testnet before a possible mainnet deployment.

The proposed changes would reduce the cited transaction timing from 75 seconds to 25 seconds. Faster network processing could improve usability, although shorter intervals do not necessarily translate into equivalent reductions in final settlement time.

The report identifies October 20 as the planned readiness decision date and November 5 as a possible rollout date, conditional on successful testing.

Those milestones remain prospective. The upgrade’s implementation and market impact will depend on technical readiness and subsequent adoption.

ZecHub data shows that shielded transactions recently accounted for as much as 56% of Zcash activity, a level not seen in years.

The increase points to greater use of the network’s privacy functionality. That activity supports the case for Zcash’s core use case, but it does not by itself establish future demand for ZEC or guarantee a price recovery following the upgrade.

Zcash Price Outlook: $1,200 and $1,000 Remain Key Tests

The four-hour analysis identifies $1,250 as a nearby structural level, with $1,200 representing a further downside threshold.

A sustained break below $1,200 could bring the recent lows around $1,150 back into focus. If that support fails, the analysis allows for a deeper test of $1,000.

Below $1,000, analysts identify the $800 region as a potential medium-term downside area.

Analysts retain a bullish scenario involving a retest of $1,650 after successful NU7 implementation. That outcome would require renewed buying demand and a recovery through the $1,300 resistance that recently capped the rebound.
