Bybit Launches Regulated Crypto Platform in Indonesia Following NOBI Acquisition

TL;DR

  • Bybit has launched Bybit Indonesia after acquiring a majority stake in licensed crypto firm PT Enkripsi Teknologi Handal (formerly NOBI).

  • The exchange will roll out its services in phases, beginning with 500 cryptocurrency trading pairs.

  • Former NOBI executives Lawrence Samantha and Dionisius Evan will lead the Indonesian operation.

Cryptocurrency exchange Bybit has officially entered the Indonesian market by launching Bybit Indonesia, following its acquisition of a majority stake in licensed digital asset company PT Enkripsi Teknologi Handal, formerly known as NOBI.

The move strengthens Bybit's presence in Southeast Asia and aligns with its strategy of expanding through regulated local entities as demand for digital assets continues to grow across the region.

Bybit Indonesia to Launch with 500 Crypto Trading Pairs

Following the acquisition, PT Enkripsi Teknologi Handal has been rebranded as Bybit Indonesia.

The exchange said it will introduce its products and services in phases, with the initial rollout featuring 500 cryptocurrency trading pairs. The phased launch is intended to provide Indonesian users with broader access to digital asset trading while complying with local regulatory requirements.

Bybit has appointed Lawrence Samantha as Chief Executive Officer of Bybit Indonesia, while Dionisius Evan will serve as Chief Operating Officer.

Both executives previously held senior leadership positions at NOBI and bring extensive experience in Indonesia's digital asset industry.

Commenting on the acquisition, Samantha said the partnership combines Bybit's global expertise with a local team that understands Indonesia's regulatory framework and evolving crypto market.

Indonesia Remains One of Southeast Asia's Fastest-Growing Crypto Markets

Indonesia has emerged as one of the region's largest cryptocurrency markets in terms of user adoption.

According to data from the Indonesia Financial Services Authority (OJK):

  • The country had 21.07 million registered crypto asset users as of February 2026.

  • Crypto transaction volume reached 482 trillion Indonesian rupiah (approximately $26.85 billion) during 2025.

The strong growth highlights increasing retail participation and continued interest in digital assets despite evolving regulatory oversight.

Bybit's entry comes through one of Indonesia's regulated crypto firms. As of April 2026, Indonesian regulators had licensed 31 crypto-related entities, including:

  • Two cryptocurrency exchanges.

  • Two clearing institutions.

  • Two custodians.

  • Twenty-five licensed digital asset traders, including PT Enkripsi Teknologi Handal.

By acquiring a licensed operator rather than entering the market independently, Bybit positions itself to expand its services while operating within Indonesia's established regulatory framework.

The launch of Bybit Indonesia shows the exchange's broader strategy of strengthening its global footprint through regulated local operations as competition intensifies across Asia's rapidly expanding cryptocurrency market.
