THORChain Now Lets Users Swap Monero and Zcash Without an Exchange

THORChain 3.20 launches native Monero and Zcash swaps, allowing users to trade XMR and ZEC for Bitcoin, Ethereum, and stablecoins without custody.

THORChain Now Lets Users Swap Monero and Zcash Without an Exchange

THORChain has launched version 3.20 of its decentralized exchange protocol, introducing native support for Monero and Zcash swaps.

In a press release shared with Cryptowisser, THORChain stated that the upgrade allows users to exchange XMR and ZEC directly for supported assets, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, and stablecoins.

Previously, moving funds between privacy-focused cryptocurrencies and the wider digital asset market often required centralized exchanges, custodial platforms, or multiple intermediary transactions.

THORChain 3.20 provides a more direct route by connecting the underlying networks through its decentralized cross-chain infrastructure.

No Wrapped Tokens or Centralized Custody Required

THORChain’s implementation uses native XMR and ZEC rather than tokenized representations issued on another blockchain.

Users therefore do not need wrapped versions of either asset to complete cross-chain swaps.

The protocol also does not require users to create an account or deposit their assets with a centralized company.

Instead, traders retain control of their funds while moving between otherwise disconnected blockchain networks.

The model reduces reliance on custodial intermediaries, although users must still consider smart-contract, network, liquidity, and execution risks when using a decentralized protocol.

The integration is particularly relevant for Monero holders because several centralized exchanges have removed or restricted XMR trading.

Regulatory concerns surrounding privacy-enhancing cryptocurrencies have made access to Monero more limited on traditional trading platforms.

THORChain’s native integration provides an alternative that relies on self-custody and decentralized liquidity rather than exchange deposits.

Users can now move between XMR and widely used crypto assets without first transferring funds to a centralized venue.

The addition could improve Monero’s accessibility and liquidity across the broader cryptocurrency market.

Zcash users also gain a direct route to assets on other supported networks. Like Monero, Zcash was developed with transaction privacy as a central feature, although its network supports both transparent and shielded transactions.

Native integration eliminates the need to convert ZEC into a wrapped token before using THORChain’s cross-chain markets.

The upgrade extends decentralized trading access into a section of the market where cross-chain support has historically been limited.

Protocol-Owned Liquidity Added in Version 3.20

THORChain 3.20 also introduces Protocol-Owned Liquidity, giving the network additional tools for deploying its own capital.

Under this model, the protocol can supply liquidity to selected markets instead of depending entirely on external liquidity providers.

Protocol-Owned Liquidity could help deepen trading pools, support new asset integrations, and improve swap execution.

However, its effectiveness will depend on how THORChain allocates capital and manages risks across its supported markets.

The upgrade introduces a Stable Reserve designed to improve stablecoin-to-stablecoin transactions.

Stablecoin swaps often require deep liquidity and low price impact because users expect assets pegged to the same currency to trade close to parity.

The new reserve aims to improve execution when users exchange between supported stablecoins.

THORChain has not provided detailed performance figures in the announcement, so the reserve’s effect on liquidity, pricing, and slippage will become clearer after broader use.

Solana, Base, and BNB Support Returns

Version 3.20 also restores support for Solana, Base, and BNB. The renewed integrations expand the number of networks and assets accessible through THORChain’s cross-chain infrastructure.

Together with the Monero and Zcash additions, the upgrade broadens THORChain’s role as a venue for exchanging native assets across independent blockchains.

The release strengthens the protocol’s core proposition: allowing users to trade cryptocurrencies across networks without surrendering custody or relying on wrapped assets.

By extending that model to privacy-focused blockchains, THORChain is opening decentralized access to a market segment that has remained heavily dependent on centralized services.

THORChain is a decentralized exchange that enables users to swap native digital assets across different blockchain networks without relying on wrapped assets or centralized custodians. It allows users to exchange assets including Bitcoin, Ethereum, and other supported cryptocurrencies while maintaining a self-custodial experience.
