The legendary Formula 1 team McLaren Racing has inked a multi-year deal with crypto exchange OKX. The deal will see the exchange becoming the official primary partner of McLaren.

The leading cryptocurrency exchange OKX will be excited about the global exposure the brand will get as the Formula 1 tours, racing in major cities the world over. The Seychelles-based cryptocurrency platform will know that McLaren may not be at the top of their game now, but they are the most successful team in sports history and this deal certainly shows their ambition to get back on top.

What the deal will bring to both parties?

Fans of the McLaren F1 team will receive a variety of great cryptocurrency opportunities, courtesy of OKX. The first sign of OKX on the track will be at the 2022 Miami Grand Prix, which is slated for May 8th, with the OKX’s brand on the suits and helmets, as well as the rear wing, front wing, mirrors, cockpit side, nose, and inner halo of the McLaren MCL 36 F1 car.

Haider Rafique, a chief market officer at OKX, had this to say about the deal “We innovate on our platform every day, ensuring the highest trade execution speed to our users, requiring “pit-like” team collaborations and instincts.” While Zak Brown, CEO of McLaren Racing, said OKX was a  “long-established crypto brand that brings innovation, analytics, and accuracy to accomplish great things.”

With a number of emerging crypto exchanges, the likes of crypto.com and Binance, striking sponsorship deals in various sports industries, it feels like the right time for OKX to move into the Formula 1 industry.

This isn’t the first crypto deal for McLaren

Just at the end of 2021, we saw the British motor racing team reveal the launch of its own NFT platform, in collaboration with the fast-growing Tezos. The collection was listed as the “McLaren Racing Collective.”

The collection allows fans to interact with the team and purchase digital collectables, which include certain parts of the car. The team were quite giving at the launch of the collection, giving the first 5,000 fans who joined the platform an NFT gift.

An exciting fan for cryptocurrency holders, especially as we’re seeing so many sponsorship deals strike up between top sporting organizations and crypto companies.
