KuCoin Earns International Certification for Its AI Governance

KuCoin secures ISO 42001 certification for AI governance, strengthening transparency, accountability, security, and trust across its crypto platform.

KuCoin Earns International Certification for Its AI Governance

Cryptocurrency exchange KuCoin has obtained ISO/IEC 42001:2023 certification for its Artificial Intelligence Management System, reinforcing its efforts to establish responsible governance for AI technologies used throughout its platform.

In a press release shared with Cryptowisser, KuCoin stated that ISO/IEC 42001 is an international standard for AI management systems, providing organizations with a structured framework for overseeing how artificial intelligence is developed, deployed, monitored, and improved.

KuCoin said the certification strengthens its broader Trust Framework and supports its long-term strategy of providing secure, transparent, and reliable digital asset infrastructure.

Certification Establishes Framework for Responsible AI

KuCoin’s certified Artificial Intelligence Management System covers the governance processes and organizational functions supporting AI across its cryptocurrency exchange and financial services operations.

The framework is designed to ensure that AI systems operate under clearly defined policies, oversight mechanisms, and processes for continual improvement.

As artificial intelligence becomes more integrated into financial platforms, expectations increasingly extend beyond technical performance to include accountability, transparency, and responsible management.

ISO/IEC 42001 addresses these issues by establishing a standardized approach to governing AI throughout its lifecycle.

For KuCoin, the certification provides an internationally recognized foundation for managing the risks and responsibilities associated with AI-driven financial services.

Artificial intelligence now plays a growing role across cryptocurrency trading platforms, supporting functions that extend beyond customer-facing products.

At KuCoin, AI-related applications include risk management, anti-money laundering, fraud detection, market surveillance, customer service, product intelligence, and operational automation.

These functions can influence how suspicious transactions are identified, how platform activity is monitored, and how customers receive support.

Because such systems may affect financial decisions, security measures, and regulatory compliance, their deployment requires consistent oversight and clear lines of responsibility.

KuCoin said its AI management framework supports the responsible deployment and continuous improvement of these technologies across its operations.

This latest development comes a month after KuCoin's global user base exceeded 45 million, as its 2026 H1 report highlights rapid growth in AI services, crypto payments, institutional offerings and Web3 products.

KuCoin CEO Emphasizes Accountability and Transparency

KuCoin CEO BC Wong said the growing importance of AI in digital finance must be matched by stronger governance.

“AI is becoming a foundational capability of digital financial infrastructure, but greater capability must be matched by greater responsibility,” Wong said.

He added that the future of the industry will be shaped not only by more advanced AI systems but also by systems users can trust.

According to Wong, the certification demonstrates KuCoin’s commitment to incorporating responsible AI governance into how it builds, deploys, and operates AI capabilities across the platform.

He said the company aims to ensure those capabilities remain transparent, accountable, and aligned with user trust as its products evolve.

ISO 42001 joins KuCoin’s broader Trust Framework

The new certification expands KuCoin’s existing collection of security, operational, and resilience standards.

Its Trust Framework already includes ISO/IEC 27001 certification for information security, SOC 2 Type II attestation for operational controls, and ISO 22301 certification for business continuity.

ISO/IEC 42001 adds a separate governance framework focused specifically on artificial intelligence.

Together, these standards address multiple aspects of platform operations, including data security, system reliability, operational resilience, and responsible AI development.

KuCoin said it plans to continue strengthening its AI governance as artificial intelligence becomes more deeply embedded in the digital asset industry.

Founded in 2017, KuCoin is a leading global crypto platform built on trust and security, serving over 45 million users across 200+ countries and regions. Known for its reliability and user-first approach, the platform combines advanced technology, deep liquidity, and strong security safeguards to deliver a seamless trading experience.

KuCoin provides access to 1,500+ digital assets through a broad product suite and remains committed to building transparent, compliant, and user-centric digital asset infrastructure for the future of finance, backed by SOC 2 Type II, ISO/IEC 27001:2022, ISO/IEC 27701:2019, ISO 22301:2019, and ISO/IEC 42001:2023 Certifications.

In recent years, we have built a strong global compliance foundation, marked by key milestones including AUSTRAC registration in Australia, a MiCA license in Europe, and regulatory progress in other markets.
