Coinbase-backed Ethereum layer-2 network Base resumed block production on Thursday after a disruption lasting approximately two hours temporarily halted the blockchain.
The Base team confirmed that the network is operational again, with internal nodes successfully synchronizing. However, developers said they are still investigating the root cause of the incident and advised ecosystem node operators to restart their Base nodes to restore synchronization.
Base Identifies Issue After Block Production Stops
The first public indication of the outage came at 16:03 UTC, when Base announced that mainnet block production had become "unhealthy."
Less than an hour later, at 16:52 UTC, the team said it had identified the issue and was pursuing multiple remediation efforts to restore normal network operations.
Following the recovery, Base said block production had resumed successfully and that it would continue monitoring the network while investigating the cause of the disruption.
The outage temporarily paused transaction processing across Base, one of Ethereum's largest layer-2 scaling networks.
At the time of writing, the team has not disclosed what triggered the invalid block or whether the incident resulted from a software bug, a consensus-related issue, or another technical fault.
Base Experiences Another Network Disruption
The latest incident marks another network outage for Base after the blockchain experienced a similar disruption in August 2025.
The development team said it will continue monitoring network stability and provide additional updates as its investigation progresses.
