A common argument for regular money (also known as fiat currency) as opposed to cryptocurrency is that you can’t use cryptocurrency to buy groceries and other everyday items. Well, through the use of a cryptocurrency debit card, you can. This is a review of SpectroCoin Card, one of the crypto debit cards out there.

Spectrocoin Card is a very interesting card. It is a VISA-card, meaning that you can use it at any point of payment that accepts VISA. This is of course a great advantage, seeing that VISA is the most widely accepted card in the world (alongside MasterCard), and can used for payment at 40+ million sites and physical shops worldwide and for cash withdrawals at 30+ million ATMs around the world.

In order to get the card, you must first create an account at SpectroCoin and then download the SpectroCoin App on Google Play or AppStore.

The card today supports Bitcoin, Ethereum, NEM, Bankera, Dash, Litecoin, Tether, TrueUSD, USD Coin, Paxos Standard, Ripple and Stellar Lumens, but it most likely support even more cryptocurrencies in the future.

SpectroCoin Card Supported Cryptos

With respect to fiat currencies, Spectrocoin Card only supports EUR.

US-investors may not use this card. So if you’re from the US and you’re looking for a crypto debit card, please refer to our Crypto Debit Card List to find one for you.

Spectrocoin Card's fee offering is mixed, in the way that it in some areas offers very low fees and in other areas are on the opposite side of the spectrum. The fees are set out in this picture:

SpectroCoin Card Fees

The monthly fee is EUR 1.15. Relatively speaking, this fee is low.

ATM-usage results in different fees dependent upon where you use it. In UK, you pay EUR 1 + 1% per withdrawal, in other parts of Europe you pay EUR 1 + 0.50%, and everywhere else you pay EUR 1 + 1.50%. These are all quite high amounts.

There is an issuance fee of EUR 7.00 (USD 7.80) for the plastic card. This is in line with, or even somewhat lower than, the industry average. There is both a fixed fee and a commission based fee on the spending. The card charges EUR 0.50 per transaction, and then 1.00% on the amount if you're in the UK (1.25% outside Europe).

There are also a few fees that we did not know existed. For instance, if your card is declined, you have to pay EUR 0.12. Why? Talk about adding insult to injury...

There are also a few limits to take into account before ordering the card. What we are referring to here is primarily usage limits (minimum deposit, maximum deposit etc). The minimum load amount, as SpectroCoin calls it, is EUR 10, and the maximum balance you can hold on the card is EUR 8,000. More limits are set out in the following table:
