Google Cloud Targets Institutional Digital Assets
Google Cloud is hiring an Industry Principal Architect for Web3 in Hong Kong, seeking someone to advise digital-asset companies and financial institutions across the Asia-Pacific region.
The job listing names protocol foundations, exchanges, custodians, and firms tokenizing real-world assets among the organizations the architect would work with. It asks for experience with blockchain systems and identifies stablecoin payment infrastructure, tokenized deposits and custody as relevant institutional uses.
The hire would help customers design systems such as blockchain nodes and secure transaction-signing tools. Google also wants the architect to bring customer needs into its Web3 product roadmap.
Apple Seeks Broader Payments Expertise
Meanwhile, Apple is recruiting an Apple Pay Financial Product Strategy Lead for work spanning Apple Card, Apple Cash, peer-to-peer payments and other consumer financial products, according to the listing described in the report.
The position involves assessing products, partnerships and commercial approaches across wallets, payments and commerce. Unlike Google Cloud’s Web3 role, the Apple position as described does not identify a specific stablecoin or tokenization project.
Its relevance to digital assets remains an inference from the broader direction of payments, rather than an announced Apple product plan.
Google Cloud’s hiring follows existing work with institutional markets. In March 2025, CME Group said it had completed an initial phase of integration and testing of Google Cloud Universal Ledger.
The companies described the project as a pilot for wholesale payments and asset tokenization. Google Cloud Universal Ledger is designed as a permissioned distributed ledger that financial institutions can integrate into their systems.
The job listings show two different approaches: Google Cloud is explicitly building expertise to serve digital-asset clients, while Apple is expanding its consumer payments strategy. Neither listing, by itself, confirms a new crypto product launch.
