Cardano Brings Blockchain Curriculum to UCLA Anderson Students

On Monday, the Cardano Foundation announced via a blog post that it has entered into a multi-year partnership with the Venture Accelerator at UCLA Anderson School of Management.

The partnership will provide educational and entrepreneurial opportunities for UCLA students, founders, and Venture Accelerator participants, while creating new opportunities to engage with emerging blockchain technologies and the Cardano ecosystem.

Designed to give students and early-stage founders multiple touchpoints with blockchain technology, the partnership brings together educational programming, practical application, founder support, and ecosystem engagement.

First, Cardano Academy content and use cases will be incorporated into blockchain education at UCLA, including Blockchain Cryptocurrency Applications in Business and Finance, taught by Alex Nascimento, UCLA Anderson MBA ’08, beginning in 2027. Students will engage with Cardano educational content, practical applications and project-based learning.

The partnership will also launch with Cardano for the Real World: Blockchain, AI, and Building the Next Big Thing, an interactive masterclass on October 19 designed by the Cardano Academy and Alex Nascimento.

The session will introduce students to enterprise Web3, decentralized AI agent infrastructure, and real-world blockchain applications. Students will work in teams to develop Web3 business architectures and present rapid pitches, while also exploring AI-assisted smart contract development. Students who successfully complete the program will receive a Cardano Foundation-sponsored certification.

Cardano is a third-generation blockchain using the Ouroboros proof-of-stake consensus mechanism, designed to consume significantly less energy than proof-of-work networks.

Cardano's development is primarily managed by Input Output Global (IOG, formerly IOHK), founded by Charles Hoskinson, an early Ethereum contributor. The ecosystem includes the Cardano Foundation, which ensures standardization and advocacy, and Emurgo, which drives commercial adoption and business development. Cardano operates as a Layer 1 blockchain separate from other infrastructure projects.

ADA, the native cryptocurrency, serves two functions: as a medium of exchange on the Cardano network and as a mechanism for participating in network security and governance through staking. Similar to Ether on Ethereum, users must hold ADA to execute smart contracts and pay transaction fees.

Cardano is designed as a third-generation blockchain, addressing limitations in first-generation networks like Bitcoin and second-generation platforms like Ethereum. Prior-generation blockchains often face throughput bottlenecks that constrain transaction capacity and increase fees during periods of high network activity.

ADA is down 2.5% in the last 24 hours, trading at $0.2418 per coin.
