Bitcoin Climbs Above $65,000 as U.S.–Iran Peace Deal Sparks Global Risk Rally

TL;DR

  • Bitcoin rose 2.4% over the past 24 hours to $65,793, while Ethereum gained 2.8% to $1,720.

  • The rally reflects improving risk sentiment following reports that the U.S. and Iran have reached a peace agreement.

Crypto Markets Rise on Easing Geopolitical Tensions

Bitcoin surged above $65,000 late Sunday as global financial markets reacted positively to reports of a peace agreement between the United States and Iran, easing fears of further geopolitical escalation.

The world’s largest cryptocurrency rose 2.4% over the past 24 hours to $65,793 at the time of writing, rebounding from a weekend low near $63,600.

Broader crypto markets also moved higher. Ethereum gained 2.8% to $1,720, XRP climbed 3.5% to $1.19, and Solana advanced 4.2% to $71.11.

U.S.–Iran Peace Agreement Drives Risk-On Sentiment

Market momentum followed reports that Washington and Tehran have reached a peace agreement expected to take effect on Friday.

CNN reported that the deal includes the lifting of the U.S. naval blockade and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz once formalized.

Analysts said the development triggered a broad “risk-on” shift across global assets.

“Markets are repricing risk after reports of a U.S.–Iran peace deal and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, triggering a broad risk-on move across assets,” said Dominick John, analyst at Zeus Research. “This move is driven by positioning and risk rotation rather than a shift in underlying fundamentals.”

Min Jung, research associate at Presto Research, added that the crypto rally reflects improved sentiment following reduced geopolitical tensions rather than any crypto-specific catalyst.

Analysts also noted that low weekend liquidity may have exaggerated price movements in digital assets.

“The recent price action in crypto markets was macro relief beta, amplified by thin weekend liquidity, rather than a crypto-native story,” said Rick Maeda, head of markets at Laevitas.

He added that momentum accelerated after remarks from former President Donald Trump suggesting progress toward a U.S.–Iran framework, which helped ease risk premiums across markets.

Oil Prices Slide as Risk Premium Fades

Crude oil markets reacted sharply to the easing tensions, with prices falling more than 4% to their lowest levels in over three months.

West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude dropped 4.84% to $80.77 per barrel, while Brent crude declined 4.33% to $83.53 per barrel.

“The crypto bounce was largely driven by macro risk-premium compression… pushing oil lower and lifting Asian markets in tandem,” said Jeff Ko, chief analyst at CoinEx.

Traders Watch Confirmation and Central Bank Signals

Market participants are now focused on whether the reported peace deal is formally confirmed and what it means for shipping routes through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global oil passage.

Attention is also turning to a busy macroeconomic week, including a Federal Reserve meeting under new Chair Kevin Warsh. Investors are expected to scrutinize his comments for clues on future rate policy.

“The press conference will give us a sense of how he’ll approach rate policy for the rest of the year,” said Jeff Mei, COO of BTSE.

As geopolitical risk eases and macro events take center stage, traders are preparing for continued volatility across crypto, equities, and commodities.
