Avalanche Joins Visa and Mastercard in New AI Payments Alliance

On Tuesday, the Avalanche Foundation announced via X that Avalanche is a founding member of the Agentic Payments Alliance.

Organized by Raincards, the coalition brings payments and technology leaders together to shape the standards and safeguards for agent-driven commerce.

The Agentic Payments Alliance (APA) is a coalition of organizations working together to help guide the development of agentic commerce. Founding members include Visa, Mastercard, Fiserv, Circle, Solana, and Remitly.

The Alliance itself is a working coalition, run collectively by its founding members rather than owned by any one company. Members will set its charter and mission together. Early work is expected to include shared research and frameworks, testing emerging standards for agent identity and authorization, and advocacy on the regulatory questions agentic commerce raises.

Founding members will also get early access to Rain's Agentic Startup Program, an accelerator supporting early-stage companies building for agentic commerce. The program's first cohort of five startups will present at a demo day open to Alliance members, giving founding organizations a direct look at the applications and use cases shaping this category.

Avalanche is an open-source platform for launching Decentralized Finance (DeFi) applications and enterprise blockchain deployments in an interoperable, highly scalable ecosystem. Avalanche is a layer one blockchain that functions as a platform for decentralized applications and custom blockchain networks. It is one of Ethereum’s rivals, aiming to unseat Ethereum as the most popular blockchain for smart contracts. It aims to do so by having a higher transaction output of up to 6,500 transactions per second while not compromising scalability.

This is made possible by Avalanche’s unique architecture. The Avalanche network consists of three individual blockchains: the X-Chain, C-Chain, and P-Chain. Each chain has a distinct purpose, which is radically different from the approach Bitcoin and Ethereum use, namely, having all nodes validate all transactions. Avalanche blockchains even use different consensus mechanisms based on their use cases.

AVAX is down 0.04% today and currently trades at $6.34 per coin.
