Kintsugi public testnet launches as Ethereum 2.0 draws closer

Kintsugi, a public testnet to allow people to experiment with Ethereum 2.0 before the merge to proof of stake went live yesterday. Tim Beiko, who coordinates the Ethereum core developers, announced the launch of the testnet on the Ethereum Foundation blog.

The team said “We recommend most projects begin testing and prototyping on Kintsugi to surface any potential issues soon. This way, changes can more easily be incorporated in future client and specification versions.”

Ethereum 2.0 is a long-awaited upgrade to the Ethereum network and will see the blockchain migrate from a proof of work (PoW) to a proof of stake (PoS) protocol. ETH is trading above $4,000 again as the broader cryptocurrency market slowly recovers.
