A common argument for regular money (also known as fiat currency) as opposed to cryptocurrency is that you can’t use cryptocurrency to buy groceries and other everyday items. Well, through the use of a cryptocurrency debit card, you can. This is a review of Lavapay, one of the crypto debit cards out there.

Lavapay only supports Bitcoin.

The card will most likely support even more cryptos in the future though.

With respect to fiat currencies, Lavapay supports USD, EUR, GBP and RUB.

Lavapay is a VISA-card, so it can be used essentially anywhere.

US-investors may not use this card. So if you’re from the US and you’re looking for a crypto debit card, please refer to our Crypto Debit Card List to find one for you.

An interesting aspect with Lavapay is that it normally only takes around 24 hours to activate the Lavapay account. This is definitely a quick and easy process!

We think that Lavapay charges quite competitive fees.

The monthly fee is USD 1.00. This is low (lower than most non-crypto debit cards as well).

There is an issuance fee set to USD 9.99, which is in line with industry average (if not even a bit lower than industry average – which is arguably around USD 15.00).

ATM-usage results in a fee of USD 3.50 on the withdrawn amount. Fixed ATM-withdrawal fees can be disadvantageous to you if you are in countries where the normal ATM-machines only allow smaller withdrawals (USD 20 for instance). In such scenarios, in order to withdraw a larger amount you need to withdraw several times, thus triggering the fixed fee each time.

Furthermore, the most important fee of them all is the commission on spending. Lavapay sets you back 3.00%. This means that if you buy a nice Christmas present to someone for USD 100, this will reduce your crypto assets with USD 103. Spending fee of 3% is roughly in line with industry average but there are also crypto debit cards that don’t not charge any specific fee on top of the purchase amount at all.

The maximum deposit is USD 20,000 (relatively high limit). No minimum deposit.

If this is the cryptocurrency debit card for you, good for you! If not, check out one of the other epic crypto debit cards in our crypto debit card list. Good luck!
