What is an NFT Marketplace?
An NFT Marketplace is a marketplace for NFT. So far so good. But what is an NFT?
NFT is an acronym for “Non-Fungible Tokens”. Something which is fungible is replaceable. For instance, one kilo of 24 karat gold is – at least in theory – replaceable with any other kilo of 24 karat gold. When something is non-fungible, it means that it is unique, and not replaceable with any other item out there.
Although NFTs are conceptually similar to cryptocurrencies, these digital assets might represent antiques & artworks, collectables like trading cards, and other items with unique features. These tokens are stored cryptographically in a blockchain network for authentication and validation. Even when transacting, each token is sold as a whole, unlike cryptocurrencies which are divisible into smaller units. NFTs lose their value when split into smaller portions, however, they can be duplicated by the artist and each additional copy can be sold separately (but the total number of duplicates will then always be known).
The central theme of this NFT trading platform is its appeal to gamers and esports enthusiasts. It also has a blog section featuring writeups on gaming tips, guides, and statistics. Users can buy single NFTs or a bundle of collectables on the DMarket platform.
Buyers can bid through the target/bid feature whereas sellers can opt for the instant sale feature on the DMarket Circular exchange. eSports fans can also look forward to airdrops of NFT items when participating in live streams. The portal also supports Face2Face trading i.e. buying and selling the NFTs without even transferring them on DMarket. Additionally, owners can use these items during the game until it is sold.
When you make a trade at DMarket, they charge you a fee. For NFT sellers, the fee is adjusted and the seller is shown the earnings under the “You’ll get” field.
Another source of revenue for DMarket is its subscription plans. Subscribing DMarket users can benefit from cashback rewards. The Trader plan offers a 3% cashback for the 30-day subscription period whereas the ACE plan, for the same period, gives you a 4% cashback. Subscription bought using DMarket Founder’s Mark attracts a 50% discount. However, any cashback earned from transactions can only be used for trading within the platform.
