Given Polygon's great value and adaptability, we thought we’d highlight some of the most exciting work on MATIC

Play-to-Earn (P2E) gaming has boomed in the last couple of years, with gamers and crypto enthusiasts linking their crypto wallets to their favorite new games to earn crypto. The Polygon (MATIC) network is one of the most popular for developers and upcoming projects in the DeFi space. One of the main reasons for this is Polygon runs on Ethereum blockchain technology, which is adaptable and scalable, allowing it to connect various Ethereum-based projects.

Polygon is touted for its ability to offer flexibility, security, and sovereignty while reaping the structural benefits of the Ethereum blockchain. MATIC is an ERC-20 token that is one of the most popular in the industry and can be used to pay network transaction fees as well as govern the Proof-of-Stake (PoS) network

Given Polygon's great value and adaptability, we thought we’d highlight some of the most exciting work on MATIC. We’ve compiled a short list of the most exciting GameFi projects in 2022. Let’s take a look.

Planet IX

A unique GameFi NFT-based project offering gamers the chance to play a strategy-based game focusing on sustainability. The Planet IX metaverse takes place on a virtual planet, earth. The focus of the game is to collect land and territories known as PIX (the game’s NFTs) and earn the game’s currency, the IX Token (IXT). The world is comprised of 1.6 billion PIX, giving the game great scalability and developing the freedom to take the world in whatever direction they see fit. PIXs are divided into various classifications and tiers based on location and rarity. Earned IXT can be used to purchase PIX in the Planet IX ecosystem through its native marketplace. As players progress in the game, they can grow and develop their territories, create alliances, and work in tandem with other landowners. The collaborative element of Planet IX ties into the philosophies of sustainability and is one of the things that makes this GameFi project so unique.

Pegaxy

Pegaxy is a P2E player-versus-player game focused on horse racing. Gamers compete against eleven other jockeys to finish in the top three and earn the game’s native utility token VIS. One of the great things about Pegaxy races is that each race has its unique variable thrown into it, which includes things like fire, speed, water, wind, and many more. Each horse in the game is known as a Pega and can be evolved in various ways, such as breeding, racing, renting, and selling. The game is, first and foremost, a strategy game, but it also involves a skill level as you navigate your way around the Pegaxy world. The game has a great future ahead of it, with developers planning to boost the game's player base and daily transactions with the addition of new features and new race types.

Sunflower Land

This play-to-own game metaverse platform first went online in April of this year, allowing gamers to indulge in this unique world where players can plant crops, chop wood, and mine rocks, on a journey to building their empire. All collected items can be burned to craft new items, using crafted and minted items to help them achieve their goals and ultimately earn their SunFlower Land Tokens (SFL). Another significant aspect of the platform is that gamers can freely buy, trade, and sell their resources and collectibles with other players in the ecosystem. The roadmap online offers insight into the exciting future for Sunflower Land—one to keep an eye on.

Aavegotchi

Another excellent P2E game, Aavegotchi, is a community-driven, open-source NFT game focused on yield generation. The game’s digital pets hold digital and real-world value, using innovations in the blockchain space to help manage the ecosystem. Aavegotchi has a great decentralized autonomous organization (DAO, which is put in place to govern the game mechanics, DeFi aspects, rarity farming, token collateral stakes, smart contract usage, and a town hall-style voting system to give power to players. The active users in the Aavegotchi ecosystem have diminished in 2022, following the downward trend of the crypto market. However, given the fact it once boasted some 70,000 players, we expect the numbers to climb again once we get out of the ‘crypto winter.’
