The Optimism team announced via Thursday that the Bedrock update has successfully launched on its mainnet. The team explained that Bedrock improves on its predecessor by reducing transaction fees using optimized batch compression and Ethereum as a data availability layer; shortening delays of including L1 transactions in rollups by handling L1 re-orgs more gracefully; enabling modular proof systems through code re-use; and improving node performance by removing technical debt.

Bedrock introduces support for L1 re-orgs in the node software, which significantly reduces the amount of time users need to wait for deposits, Optimism added.

Optimism’s main utility is to batch transactions on the Optimism network. Optimism allows users to enjoy lower gas fees on their transactions executed on the Optimism network through optimistic roll-up technology. OP is trading at $1.375, up by 1% in the last 24 hours.
