The basketball star will launch his debut NFT sneaker collection using the VRF and give users exclusive rewards in a fair manner

Yesterday, December 13th, Orange Comet announced, via Twitter, a collaboration with NBA Hall of Famer Scottie Pippen to launch its integrated Chainlink VRF on the Ethereum network. The basketball star will launch his debut NFT sneaker collection using the VRF and give users exclusive rewards in a fair manner.

Scottie Pippen Collab and VRF Launch

Leading Web3 entertainment and tech company Orange Comet has inked a deal with 6x NBA Champion Scottie Pippen to promote the launch of their integrated Chainlink Verifiable Random Function (VRF) on Ethereum.

The focus of the integration is to allow for fair distribution of Scottie Pippen’s Sneaker NFT collection, with the VRF also selecting winners to receive special-edition NFTs, real sneakers, the opportunity to meet the NBA star, and much more.

The deal between Pippen and Orange Comet marks the first collaboration with the Web3 firm’s Cørrupted Wear Collection, bringing together fashion, culture, and big celebrity names. There are few bigger names in the US than Scottie Pippen. The partnership will help to highlight the company’s intent to drive forward with Web3 technologies and allow users to enter the metaverse with a unique piece of a limited-edition Sneaker NFT collection.

What Do NFT Holders Receive?

Each 3D animated NFT will enable holders to wear their fresh sneakers in any compatible metaverse ecosystem, allowing them to get their hands on sensational prizes. In honor of Pippen’s jersey number “33”, there will be 33 autographed pairs of physical sneakers up for grabs as part of this exciting prize giveaway.

Given the perceived value of these sneakers, it’s integral that the selection process is transparent and each NFT holder has a fair chance of receiving the prize. This is where the Chainlink VRF comes in and provides a verifiable and valid process. As well as the physical sneaker giveaway, the Chainlink VRF will be used for these additional reward giveaways:

  • 1 holder + 1 guest for a hometown tour with Scottie.
  • 2 holders (plus a guest each) will join Scottie for a golf outing.
  • 333 special edition Pippen NFT basketballs presented in a state-of-the-art glass case.
  • 33 holders will receive a QR code to redeem $100 off any notable sneaker lifestyle brand purchases.

How Does Chainlink’s VRF work?

The VRF provides a unique function, combining anonymous block data when a request is made with the oracle node’s pre-committed private key to generate a random number and a cryptographic proof. The NFT collection of smart contracts works by only accepting the random number input if it matches the valid cryptographic proof, which can only be generated if the VRF process is tamper-proof.

The VRF will provide users with automated and verifiable guarantees on the blockchain, making the winner selection process provable and fair. Paul Camuso, the co-founder of Orange Comet, said on the deal “Fairness and integrity are foundational to our company and the NFT collections we help launch. That’s why Chainlink VRF was mission-critical for helping distribute NFTs and select winners for the Scottie Pippen Sneaker NFT collection.”
