The MultiversX team announced via X on Sunday that its community has approved the Supernova governance proposal. $EGLD stakeholders have authorized the activation of Supernova, the largest protocol upgrade in MultiversX history.
The network will now proceed with the phased rollout, including testing, the Battle of Nodes, audits, and final readiness checks.
The MultiversX Supernova upgrade is a major network overhaul, shifting to a propose/vote/execute consensus for sub-second finality, enabling faster, more complex dApps like real-time games and advanced DeFi.
Key Features and Goals of Supernova
-
Faster Block Times: Aims for 600ms block times with instant finality after previous upgrades like Andromeda.
-
New Architecture: Decouples consensus and execution, allowing for better parallel processing.
-
Enhanced dApp Capabilities: Enables next-gen applications requiring instant state changes, such as high-frequency trading, order books, and autonomous agents.
-
Sub-Second Finality: Makes on-chain interactions feel immediate, blurring the line between on-chain and off-chain experiences.
-
Community-Driven: Requires a governance vote from EGLD stakeholders for activation, with final votes occurring in January 2026.
MultiversX is a high-throughput public blockchain focused on providing security, efficiency, scalability, and interoperability by employing two key elements: Adaptive State Sharding and a new Secure Proof of Stake ("SPoS") consensus mechanism. EGLD is down 10.1% today and is trading at $6.04 at press time.
