Metaplanet’s Bitcoin Holdings Tops 35k
Metaplanet, a Tokyo-listed investment and operating company focused on bitcoin treasury management, announced on Tuesday that it purchased another 4,279 bitcoin in the fourth quarter, spending a total of $451 million.
In an X post, the company revealed that the purchase, at an average price of $105,412, took the company’s total BTC holdings to 35,102. Thus, making it the fourth-largest corporate holder of Bitcoin.

The company intends to own 210,000 BTC by the end of 2027. Thanks to this latest acquisition, Metaplanet has now spent some $3.78 billion, at an average purchase price of $107,607, according to the company's dashboard.
Metaplanet has also built a Bitcoin income-generation business that leverages derivatives to produce recurring revenue while supporting long-term bitcoin holdings. The Tokyo-based company said it expects the unit to generate around $55 million in revenue for the full fiscal year.
The company’s announcement comes as Bitcoin has underperformed in the fourth quarter of the year. The leading cryptocurrency is trading above $88k per coin, down by nearly 5% since the start of the year.
