Chainlink Unveils Data Streams for the U.S. Stock Market

Chainlink has announced the expansion of its Data Streams product to include 24/5 U.S. stock and exchange-traded fund coverage.

According to Chainlink, this latest development will enable decentralized trading platforms to price equities during pre-market, post-market, and overnight sessions.

The firm added that the upgrade tackles a liquidity gap in the on-chain trading of real-world assets (RWAs). Chainlink is changing the narratives as U.S. stock feeds previously only covered regular market hours, leaving decentralized exchanges unable to maintain accurate pricing overnight or during pre-market sessions.

This latest feature is built specifically for U.S. equities to operate on-chain. While Chainlink Price Feeds push periodic updates suited for lending platforms like Aave, Data Streams operate on a “pull” model.

The firm explained that this approach will help support high-frequency trading by delivering sub-second updates only when a trade occurs. Thus, reducing the network gas costs associated with constant on-chain reporting.

The Chalink Data Streams also include metadata such as market status flags and bid/ask spreads. The extra fees are crucial for protocols to adjust risk parameters when liquidity thins during overnight trading.

Chainlink added that it is also working with Swift, Euroclear, and the Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC) to automate corporate actions like dividends, stock splits, and mergers.

Data Streams and corporate actions will combine to replicate the behavior of real-world financial instruments. The result is a setup in which tokenized equities remain functional and accurate even during off-hours.

This latest development follows the New York Stock Exchange's announcement earlier this week that it is developing a tokenized securities platform for trading and on-chain settlement of tokenized securities.
