Humanity Cash announced in a press release on Tuesday that it has partnered with Schumacher Center and Celo to launch BerkShares, the first US-based local currency.
According to the press release, BerkShares is a community currency that has been around since 2006. However, this is the first time it will come as a digital currency.
Humanity Cash is a technology platform that enables any community to design its own community currency, while the the Schumacher Center for a New Economics works to envision the elements of a just and regenerative global economy.
Celo is an open platform that supports various distributed applications, smart contract development and payments using e-mail addresses and phone numbers as public keys.
