The Avalanche team announced via Twitter on Thursday that the Cortina Upgrade on its mainnet is coming soon. The upgrade will activate on Fuji, Avalanche’s public network for testing dApps, on March 30th.

This latest version of AvalancheGo migrates the X-Chain to run Snowman++ consensus, making the X-Chain compatible with Avalanche Warp Messaging and making it easier for exchanges to support the X-Chain, the team added.

The X-Chain migrating to Snowman++ means the entire network has moved to a single consensus engine. This reduces the size of the trusted computing base and increases the leverage of existing R&D efforts, which will enable faster development and more broadly-applicable innovation. According to Avalanche, this unblocks the integration of Avalanche Warp Messaging (AWM) on the X-Chain and makes it much easier for exchanges to support the X-Chain, which will contain many of the staking tokens used on Elastic Subnets.

Avalanche is an open-source platform for launching Decentralized Finance (DeFi) applications and enterprise blockchain deployments in an interoperable, highly scalable ecosystem.AVAX is up by 1% so far today and currently trades at $17.31 per coin.
