Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey steps down from Bluesky's board, the decentralized social media platform he funded in 2019.

Jack Dorsey, co-founder of Twitter, has stepped down from the board of Bluesky, the decentralized social media platform he helped create in 2019 during his time as Twitter's CEO. Bluesky acknowledged his departure without providing reasons, expressing gratitude for his initial support and funding.

Despite the lack of explanation, Dorsey's recent online activity, where he endorsed Elon Musk's social network and promoted grants for open interest protocols, has drawn attention. Observers noted Dorsey's trimmed follow list, which now includes only Musk, Stella Assange, and Edward Snowden, suggesting a potential reconciliation with Musk following past criticism.

Bluesky, announced by Dorsey in 2019, aimed to establish a decentralized standard for social media. While it entered beta testing in 2023 and became publicly available in 2024, it boasts approximately 5.6 million users.

Dorsey's departure from Bluesky coincides with Block's shift towards developing a full Bitcoin mining system. Block, led by Dorsey, has achieved a breakthrough in designing a 3nm Bitcoin mining chip and plans to expand its efforts into system design.

Dorsey's involvement in cryptocurrency extends beyond Bluesky and Twitter. As CEO of Square Inc., he facilitated Bitcoin transactions through Cash App, making Square one of the earliest mainstream adopters of Bitcoin. His advocacy for Bitcoin emphasizes its decentralized nature and its potential to transform the financial industry.
