Privacy-focused cryptocurrency Dash has partnered with Nym to enable private payments for NymVPN, an ideal choice for users thanks to Dash’s fast, low-cost, and censorship-resistant transactions.

Crypto Meets VPN? Dash Enables Private Payments for NymVPN

One of the core tenets of cryptocurrencies is privacy. Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) also focus on privacy as they allow users to browse the internet anonymously. The combination of these two is excellent as crypto focuses on the privacy of payments, while VPNs focus on internet privacy.

VPN Meets Crypto

A VPN is a software program that ensures a secure and private connection whenever a user accesses the internet. This implies that when connected to a VPN, a user is assigned an anonymous IP address, rerouting the connection through a server in its network and encrypting the data.

A recent study by Windscribe revealed that there are approximately 1.5 billion VPN users worldwide as of 2023, representing about 31% of all internet users. The number is expected to increase as more people become conscious of internet cybersecurity.

The report also highlighted that the global VPN market was valued at around $44–50 billion in 2022–2023 and is projected to continue rising. Estimates put the market at $75–88 billion by 2027 and $137 billion by 2030.

To leverage this growth, digital cash provider Dash has announced its integration as a payment option for NymVPN.

According to the press release shared with Cryptowisser, Dash said this partnership unites it with a leading privacy service provider endorsed by Edward Snowden, marking a significant return to its privacy roots.

Does the Partnership Benefit Users?

Dash says yes. According to the press release, Dash revealed that the integration enables NymVPN users to subscribe using the DASH currency. Hence, users will benefit from the coin’s fast, low-cost, and censorship-resistant transactions.

The team explained that NymVPN’s service offers two distinct modes: a “Fast” 2-hop WireGuard-based VPN for everyday browsing and streaming, and an “Anonymous” 5-hop mixnet mode that adds robust metadata protection against AI-driven surveillance and censorship.

Dash, which has been around since 2014 (initially known as Darkcoin) is known for its protocol-level privacy features. Its native DASH coin is available on major exchanges, making it easier for users to buy the coin and use it to pay for goods and services, including the NymVPN.

Dash’s instant, secure payments will complement ymVPN’s metadata-resistant network to address one of the biggest challenges in online privacy: paying for privacy services without leaving an identifiable financial trail.

Why is Dash a Good Choice?

While cryptocurrencies preach privacy and decentralization, some cryptos still create transaction records that can be traced. However, Dash’s optional privacy features make it an ideal choice for users who want to protect both their communications and their payment data.

While commenting on the partnership, Joël Valenzuela, core member of Dash DAO, stated that,

“By integrating Dash, we’re giving our users the ability to pay for privacy with privacy. This partnership bridges a crucial gap in the privacy tech stack: you can now keep your identity safe when connecting to the internet and when paying for that protection.”

Nym’s CEO, Harry Halpin, believes that the partnership with Dash strengthens the company’s mission to offer privacy across different kinds of financial transactions

As the need for privacy grows, Dash has shown itself as an excellent option to help users avoid financial censorship.
