UPDATE 25 January 2021: This exchange does not seem to be open anymore. The only message that BCEX has given to the world about this is the following information about maintenance that was supposed to end at noon on 30 December 2020...

BCEX Maintenance

Accordingly, we have marked this exchange as "dead" in our database and moved it to our Exchange Graveyard. We will revive it if it goes online again.

To find a reliable exchange where you can start an account, just use our Exchange Filters and we'll help you find the right platform for you.

A trading cryptocurrency guide must provide reviews of all of the top crypto exchanges out there, so that you can find the best cryptocurrency exchange site for you. This review of BCEX consists of four parts: general information, fees, deposit methods and security.

BCEX is an exchange based in Hong Kong. There are loads of coin exchanges from Hong Kong. Hong Kong is in a way the Mecca of cryptocurrency trading. A non-exhaustive list of competitors to this exchange on its home turf is Binance, Bit-Z and KuCoin.

BCEX also has a futures exchange and a decentralized exchange within the company group that BCEX belongs to. They also list a few other well-known names on their website as partners. We have not examined any further in what way BCEX have partnered with the following companies, but here they are:

BCEX Partners

But, unfortunately for US-investors, BCEX prohibits US-investors from trading on its exchange. Interested US-investors must therefore refer to any of the other top crypto exchanges available on the market. Luckily for them, they can easily use the Exchange Finder tool to find another cryptocurrency exchange similar to BCEX that does allow US-investors.

Different exchanges have different trading views. And there is no “this overview is the best”-view. You should yourself determine which trading view that suits you the best. What the views normally have in common is that they all show the order book or at least part of the order book, a price chart of the chosen cryptocurrency and order history. They normally also have buy and sell-boxes. Before you choose an exchange, try to have a look at the trading view so that you can ascertain that it feels right to you. The below is a picture of the trading view at BCEX:

BCEX Trading View

Every trade occurs between two parties: the maker, whose order exists on the order book prior to the trade, and the taker, who places the order that matches (or “takes”) the maker’s order. Makers make the liquidity in a market and takers remove this liquidity by matching makers’ orders with their own.

BCEX trading fees for takers are 0.20%. This fee is in line with industry average, maybe slightly on the high end of average though. The exchange also offers a discount to makers, who trade at a fee of 0.10%. This is especially beneficial for the investors not interested in picking up existing orders from the order book.

BCEX charges a withdrawal fee amounting to 0.0009 BTC when you withdraw BTC. This is quite in line with industry average, as the industry average is arguably 0.000812 BTC per BTC-withdrawal (at least according to Cryptowisser's research).

All in all, the fees charged by BCEX are in line with, or maybe slightly above, the global industry averages.

Unfortunately for new cryptocurrency investors, BCEX does not accept any other deposit method than cryptocurrencies. This means that if you don’t hold any crypto and want to start trading here, you need to first purchase cryptocurrency elsewhere and then – as a second step – deposit such cryptocurrencies at BCEX. To find the best cryptocurrency exchange site for you where you can buy your first cryptos, use our Exchange Finder and we’ll guide you through it.
