TL;DR

  • Three Missouri men have been charged over an alleged plot to steal Bitcoin through a home invasion in Connecticut.

  • Prosecutors say the suspects monitored their intended target and his parents for two days in August 2024.

  • The group allegedly obtained rental vehicles, air rifles and walkie-talkies for the planned robbery.

Three Missouri men have been charged in connection with an alleged plot to steal Bitcoin through a planned home invasion in Connecticut, federal prosecutors announced Tuesday.

Sedric Louis, John Davis and Martel Williams face one count of conspiracy to interfere with commerce by robbery, commonly known as Hobbs Act robbery, according to US Attorney David X. Sullivan for the District of Connecticut.

If convicted, each defendant could face a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.

Suspects Allegedly Planned to Force Bitcoin Transfer

Prosecutors allege that the three men were recruited by individuals who had coordinated a separate kidnapping operation.

The purported plan involved breaking into a Connecticut residence, threatening the intended target and forcing him to transfer stolen cryptocurrency to accounts controlled by the scheme’s organizers.

Investigators said the target had allegedly participated in the theft of hundreds of millions of dollars worth of Bitcoin. His parents were also reportedly targeted as part of the operation.

Between August 21 and August 24, 2024, Louis, Davis, Williams and other participants allegedly traveled to Connecticut and obtained rental vehicles and equipment for the planned attack.

The supplies reportedly included air rifles and walkie-talkies. Prosecutors said the group monitored the intended target and his parents for two days while preparing to enter their home.

However, the three men ultimately abandoned the plan. They reportedly feared that home security cameras had captured them and became frustrated by poor communication with the alleged coordinators.

Florida Crew Later Attempted Violent Robbery

After the Missouri group left Connecticut, prosecutors say another crew from Florida arrived to carry out the robbery.

Danbury police subsequently arrested six Florida men in August 2024 following the violent carjacking, beating and kidnapping of two people inside a vehicle.

Authorities later identified the victims as the parents of the person allegedly connected to the multimillion-dollar Bitcoin theft. The latest charges against Louis, Davis and Williams are tied to that broader investigation.

A federal grand jury in New Haven returned a second superseding indictment on May 22, 2026, charging the three Missouri men.

Louis and Davis have remained in custody since their arrests on June 25. Both appeared in federal court in Bridgeport on July 30 and pleaded not guilty.

Williams appeared in court on July 17, also entered a not-guilty plea and was released on bond.

The charges are allegations, and all three defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
