The Polygon Labs team announced via X on Saturday that it has introduced the new, Sepolia-anchored testnet for Polygon PoS, called the Amoy testnet. Amoy has been launched as a low-stakes environment to build, test, and break things.

Polygon Labs launched the Amoy testnet as a low-stakes environment because the Mumbai testnet for Polygon PoS depends on Ethereum’s Goerli as the root (L1) chain for block production. But Goerli is going to be deprecated sometime in Q1 2024.

The community consensus across the Polygon ecosystem has been to deprecate Mumbai in tandem with Goerli. Until then, Mumbai and Amoy will operate independently, the team added.

Polygon (previously Matic Network) is the first well-structured, easy-to-use platform for Ethereum scaling and infrastructure development. Its core component is Polygon SDK, a modular, flexible framework that supports building multiple types of applications. MATIC is down by 2% in the last 24 hours and is currently trading at $0.8602.
