On Monday, the Near Protocol announced via X that it has achieved 1 million transactions per second (TPS) in a publicly verifiable benchmark. This throughput was achieved in a realistic, sharded environment using cost-effective, consumer-grade Google Cloud machines.
The team implemented several optimizations across NEAR's stack to enhance flow. The majority of the core code used to demonstrate 1M TPS is already on mainnet.
NEAR Protocol is a decentralized application platform designed to make apps similarly usable to those on today’s web. The network runs on a Proof-of-Stake (PoS) consensus mechanism called Nightshade, which aims to provide dynamic scalability and stabilize fees. NEAR is trading at $1.711, down 1.95% in the last 24 hours.
