London Stock Exchange Group to Offer Blockchain-Powered Market For Traditional Assets

The London Stock Exchange is currently rolling out plans to open a separate entity for its blockchain-powered markets for traditional assets.

LSE Draws Up Plans To Offer Blockchain-based Trading Of Traditional Financial Assets

The London Stock Exchange, one of the oldest stock exchanges in the world, has come up with plans to offer blockchain-based trading of traditional financial assets. This is according to a report earlier today by the Financial Times.

According to the report, LSE has reached an inflection point after it looked into the potential for bringing traditional financial markets to blockchain. According to LSE Group's Head of Capital Markets, Murray Ross, the company began its research a year ago and is now ready to take its plans forward.

He added that the project doesn’t involve cryptocurrencies but only uses the blockchain technology underpinning the digital assets. With blockchain technology, LSE wants to make it easier for investors to buy, sell, and hold traditional financial assets. 

Ross stated that;

"The idea is to use digital technology to make a process that is slicker, smoother, cheaper and more transparent . . . and to have it regulated." 

The report revealed that the LSE us considering using a separate entity for its blockchain-based markets business. The LSE is currently in talks with regulators, the UK government and Treasury, and multiple jurisdictions to see how it would happen.
