Astar Japan Lab has entered a strategic partnership with Japan’s Fukuoka City in a bid to boost web3 adoption in the region.

Fukuoka, Japan’s second-largest port city and a designated National Special Strategic Zone, announced on Monday, October 24th, that it has partnered with  Astar Japan Lab.

According to the press release shared with Cryptowisser, the partnership will see the two entities work on local Web3 use cases as the city aims to become the Web3 hub of Japan.

Astar Network founder Sota Watanabe and Fukuoka Mayor Soichior Takashima announced the collaboration at the “Myojo Waraku 2022” conference held in Fukuoka on October 13th.

Astar Japan Lab is an initiative by Astar Network, and it aims to develop innovative use cases on Astar. Astar Network revealed that more than 45 companies, including Microsoft Japan, Amazon Japan, Dentsu, Hakuhodo, MUFG, SoftBank, Accenture Japan, and PwC Japan, had joined this initiative.

While commenting on this latest development, Sota Watanabe, founder of Astar Network, said,

“We are excited to invite Fukuoka City to Astar Japan Lab. In the US, some cities like Maimi and New York have positive attitudes toward Web3 and crypto. We are going to work closely with Fukuoka City to attract more developers and entrepreneurs to Astar Network. In addition, Fukuoka is also known as the national special strategic zone. We plan to work closely with the government and utilize Web3 use cases from Fukuoka to the entire Japan.”

The partnership between the city and Astar Japan Lab is a long-term strategy designed to nurture and attract globally competitive businesses and become the Web3 hub of Japan.

Per the terms of the agreement, Astar representatives will regularly visit Fukuoka to provide education and identify new avenues for local businesses to expand globally with Astar Japan Lab.

The local government will also support innovation and entrepreneurship as Fukuoka City intends to become the Silicon Valley of Japan.

Fukuoka City Mayor Soichior Takashima commented that;

“We have to do in the context of Web3 what large companies did for the world when Japan was strong. We believe it is important to move forward together with the government, Fukuoka City, and companies that represent Japan.”

Astar Japan Lab was put in place to promote partnerships between domestic businesses and Web3 service providers to boost web3 adoption in Japan. Fukuoka added that it would encourage its citizens, entrepreneurs, and developers to collaborate with Astar Network, its community and ambassadors.
