X Unveils 'Cashtags' for In-Timeline Crypto and Stock Data
Elon Musk's social media platform, X, has introduced a new feature called "Cashtags," allowing users to view live financial data on stocks and cryptocurrencies directly within their timelines.

The feature, which is initially available to iPhone users in the U.S. and Canada, automatically suggests related assets when users search for specific stocks or contract addresses. Tapping on a Cashtag enables users to view posts mentioning the asset alongside live price charts.
X revealed that in Canada, a built-in button links to Wealthsimple, a Canadian brokerage, enabling users to trade assets directly from the app.
Nikita Bier, X’s head of product, emphasized that Cashtags are the first step in X’s broader effort to become the go-to destination for the finance and crypto community.
While the feature is currently limited to the U.S. and Canada, X has not clarified when or if it will be expanded to other regions.
The new feature comes shortly after Bier hinted at the launch. Bier acknowledged the challenges the crypto market has faced this year and hinted at potential new features to address these issues.
The X exec clarified that the platform will not execute trades or act as a brokerage; instead, the platform will focus on providing financial data tools and linking to external trading services.
This latest development is part of Elon Musk’s vision to transform X into a super app. Musk has previously stated plans for early public access to X Money, a digital wallet designed for peer-to-peer transfers and payments.
Last year, Musk confirmed that X Money, the upcoming payment and banking platform from X (formerly Twitter), has entered beta testing ahead of its planned 2025 launch. The company also posted a job opening for a senior engineer to help build the X Money payments platform, though it did not specify any involvement with cryptocurrency or blockchain.
