  • Orbs launches the public mainnet of the TON Access Service.

  • The service is a decentralized RPC provider, just like Infura is to Ethereum.

Leading contributor to TON (Telegram Open Network) ecosystem, Orbs has successfully launched the public version of its TON Access Service, making it available for all. The launch follows the successful completion of its beta phase, which has run for the past year, attracting over 100,000 unique monthly users and recording an average of nearly 2 million daily requests. According to the team statement, TON Access will provide dApps on the TON blockchain with a decentralized RPC (Remote Procedure Call) node, similar to the nodes provided by Infura for Ethereum dApps.

Unlike Infura, which is centralized and has caused single-point-of-failure disasters, the decentralized nature of TON Access makes it superior for apps. The decentralized RPC provider allows access to a server node on the specified network and allows you to communicate and interact with that blockchain.

While Infura is the do-all RPC provider for Ethereum-based dApps, TON Access provides a decentralized platform, ensuring higher security and efficiency for dApps using it. Using a decentralized RPC network like TON Access, dApps can avoid creating a centralized point of failure in otherwise fully decentralized projects.

Orbs is powered by a network of permissionless validators using proof-of-stake (POS) consensus and uses a multi-layered blockchain stack, acting as a separate decentralization layer between layer 1 and layer 2 solutions and the application layer. Simply, it connects layer 1 and layer 2 solutions and the dApps, giving rise to solutions such as TON Access.

To get their own decentralized RPC endpoint from TON Access, developers must copy and paste a snippet of code into their dApp client code. Currently, TON Access users have several RPCs to select from, including TonCenter HTTP API v2, TonHub HTTP API v4, and Raw ADNL Proxy. Some dApps have already integrated the TON Access RPCs, despite the service being in the beta phase, including Megaton Finance, the largest decentralized exchange (DEX) on the TON ecosystem by the total value of locked assets (TVL); TON API, the leading blockchain explorer on TON; and TON Vote, the leading TON ecosystem decentralized governance protocol.

As the TON ecosystem, which has ties with the Telegram messaging app, becomes more prominent, the TON Access team believe the service will drive mass adoption to the TON ecosystem, making it the “blockchain of mass adoption”.
