Ava Labs Will Discontinue Its Etherscan Block Explorer

Ava Labs has announced that it will discontinue its Etherscan-run block explorer and replace it with a new product, dubbed Routescan, starting November 30th.

According to the team, users will need to back up the information they provided on the block explorer before the deactivation date. Some of these data include addresses, private name tags and private transaction notes.

The Etherscan team explained that the decision to halt a block explorer is usually the result of various factors, including the expiration or non-renewal of a service agreement or lack of team bandwidth.

While speaking to Blockworks, Luigi D’Onorio, the head of DeFi and developer relations at Ava Labs, revealed that Snowtrace as a domain will continue to live on. However, the Etherscan deployment will be deprecated and replaced with a new product launch from the Avascan team. He said,

“Avascan has been a loyal, native team to the Avalanche ecosystem and provides support for Subnets, X-Chain and P-Chain as well as the C-Chain. The Etherscan deployment simply covered the C-Chain. As Avalanche continues to scale with Subnets, it is important that infrastructure partners cover this as well.”

While explaining this latest development, Austin Blackerby, an analytics manager at Flipside Crypto, said it is usually expensive for outside vendors like Etherscan to pull data from subnets. However, it is more cost-effective for Ava Labs to bring these resources in-house.

Avalanche’s AVAX is one of the best performers amongst the top 20 cryptocurrencies by market cap in the last 24 hours, up by more than 7% during that period.
