Arbitrum has become the latest entity to submit a proposal to use its tech stack to build Celo’s proposed layer-2 blockchain.

TL;DR

  1. Arbitrum has proposed to build Celo’s new layer-2 blockchain.

  2. Polygon had previously submitted a proposal while Celo initially picked Optimism’s OP Stack for the task.

Arbitrum Wants to Build Celo’s New L2 Blockchain

Arbitrum has become the latest to throw its hat in the ring after submitting a proposal to build a new layer-2 blockchain for the Celo network.

Nina Rong, the head of ecosystem development at the Arbitrum Foundation, submitted a proposal to the Celo community earlier this week, suggesting that Arbitrums  Orbit tech stack should build Celo’s new L2 blockchain.

Orbit tech stack builds customizable layer 2 and layer 3 chains based on Arbitrum’s optimistic technology. In the proposal, Rong wrote that,

“The team at Arbitrum Foundation has been following the development of cLabs Proposal for Celo to transition to an Ethereum L2 closely and would like to welcome Celo back to the Ethereum community by proposing the Arbitrum Orbit tech stack as the path forward.”

Interest in building Celo’s new L2 blockchain continues to increase. The Celo community previously planned to build its layer 2 with Optimism's OP Stack. However, in recent months, Polygon and Matter Labs have submitted proposals to use their stacks to build the new L2 blockchain.

Celo intends to pick a stack by the middle of next month, giving its community members time to evaluate the best stack to use.

Rong added that the Arbitrum Foundation is aligned with Celo’s mission to build a financial system that creates the conditions for prosperity for everyone.

Celo Labs informed community members earlier this week that they have begun work on technical evaluations. The team is focusing on understanding each stand and how it fits together while also familiarizing themselves with the technologies and their current state of production readiness.
