UPDATE 18 January 2021: We have decided to clean up our Cryptocurrency Wallet List. In line with that ambition, we have removed all cryptocurrency wallets that you automatically receive/create when opening up an account with a specific cryptocurrency exchange from the list. Zebpay Wallet is one of those wallets. We kindly ask you to visit Zebpay Exchange instead for a more detailed review on Zebpay's offering.

To find a secure wallet not connected to an exchange, please refer to our Cryptocurrency Wallet List.

ZebPay Intro Picture

Zebpay Wallet is a mobile and web-enabled wallet. The wallet functions both as an exchange and crypto wallet.  It possesses an instant conversion feature. It facilitates the quick conversion of BTC to the user’s preferred fiat currency. This can be done from user account directly to local bank accounts.

Zebpay has an interesting advantage. It provides users with almost zero transaction fees. Users can also use crypto to buy gift vouchers. The wallet’s interface is quite intuitive. Therefore, a beginner will find it easy to navigate.

Zebpay began operations in 2012 in India. It was registered under a different name then, buysellbitco.in, with Mahin Gupta as the founder. The company became Zebpay in September 2014. Zebpay is the first Indian wallet platform providing crypto services on mobile and web devices. In India, it used to be a leading crypto exchange before it became available on mobile in 2016.

In September 2018, the company announced that it was shutting down its operations in India. This is because of the Indian Government’s suppressive regulation on cryptos. The shutdown took immediate effect but the company continued providing wallet services to existing users. However, it no longer welcomes Indian users or registrations.

The loss of Zebpay’s space in the Indian cryptocurrency market was not the end of the company. Rather, it led to its vast international expansion. After the ban in India, the wallet grew to over 3 million registrations. Zebpay has expanded into over 130 countries, European Countries especially. It entered the Australian Crypto Market in May 2019. Australian users can trade across four AUD crypto pairs.

A few of Zebpay’s competitors include Coinomi, Xapo and Luno.

The wallet supports six digital assets. This includes BTC, XRP, BCH, ETH, LTC and EOS. In addition, it supports AUD and EUR. With the launch of Lightning Network Payment in March 2019, users can now trade BTC against Euro. They can also withdraw fiat from their wallets.

To find out where you can obtain BTC, XRP, BCH, ETH, LTC or EOS in the first place, go to our Cryptocurrency Exchange List and use the filters to find the right exchange for you.

Overview

When the wallet/exchange started off its operations in the Indian Market, transaction fees were much higher than they are now. Today, transaction fees only apply to the buying and selling of BTC. However, verified users can transfer funds from one account to another without any fees. Transactions to a different address leads to a 0.0002 BTC fee. In addition, to sell BTC, users always have to check the app for current sell price. A 10 INR fee is charged for bank withdrawals.

It is free of charge. Find it on Google Playstore and App Store for Android and iOS devices respectively. You can also sign up on the official website.

Set up your wallet in five easy steps.

  1. Go to your device enabled app store and download the app
  2. Sign up using a valid e-mail address to set up a new account.
  3. Input your mobile number and click on verify.
  4. A code will be sent to your mobile number. Input the code to complete the process.
  5. On the next slide, click on set account pin. Here, you will have to set a secret four-digit pin. You will need this to validate your transactions in the future. Now, your wallet account is ready for use.

Do not forget to complete the KYC and verify your bank. Without completing KYC, transactions such as buying and selling of BTC will be impossible. You can do this by following the instructions provided on the dashboard.

You’re not very anonymous when using the Zebpay wallet. Users have to go through the KYC protocols. They also need to go through bank verification. The wallet accounts are synchronised to the user’s e-mail address and mobile number.

Since operations commenced, there has been no report of the wallet being hacked. The wallet uses both the 2FA methods and third party encryption as security measures. Other security measures include:

  • Multisig cold storage for user funds
  • Multichain security system enabled by Omnitrixx to protect transactions between cold and hot wallets.

Since wallet IDs are synced to mobile devices, recovery of lost private keys is easy, quick and secure. Users are also provided with adequate customer support.

You can download from the respective app stores for Android and iOS. You can also sign up on the official website.
