On Friday, Polygon Labs announced via X that the Rio Upgrade is live on Polygon PoS Amoy Testnet. The team explained that Rio introduces changes to the Polygon core architecture through validator-elected block producers (VEBloP) and stateless block verification.
This update also optimizes validator efficiency and eliminates reorgs, while cutting storage bloat and maintaining decentralized block validation, laying the groundwork for higher throughput.
The changes from this upgrade include;
-
Stateless block verification
-
Validator pool split: block producers and block validators
-
High-throughput block production
-
Reduced storage bloat
-
Lower hardware costs
-
Reorg resistance
