Thanks to this latest acquisition, the company’s total holdings now stand at 20,000 BTC. Metaplanet disclosed that it purchased the latest batch of Bitcoins at an average price of around $111,068 per coin.
This latest development means that Metaplanet has become the sixth-largest public bitcoin treasury company in the world, likely surpassing Riot Platforms. Metaplanet hitting the 20k milestone comes less than three months after the company announced that it had accumulated 10k Bitcoin.
The company initially had a target of 10k Bitcoins before the end of the year, but revised its target to 30k. It now has four months to acquire the remaining 10k Bitcoins to achieve its end-of-the-year target.
This latest acquisition comes a week after Metaplanet announced that it intends to raise 130 billion yen (about $880 million) through an international share offering. The company revealed that it would spend most of the funds on purchasing Bitcoins over the next two months.
The company continues to purchase Bitcoin despite the current market conditions. Bitcoin is down 1% in the last 24 hours and briefly dropped to the $107k region before slightly bouncing back to now trade at $108,124.
