Coinbase to Halt Peso-based Services in Argentina on Jan. 31st
Cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase has announced that it will halt its peso-based services in Argentina. This latest development comes a year after Coinbase formally entered the Argentine market after receiving regulatory approval.
The exchange informed its customers that eso-to-USDC trading will end on Jan. 31, 2026. Users will no longer be able to buy or sell USDC using Argentine pesos or withdraw funds to local bank accounts after that date. Coinbase spokesperson told Bloomberg Línea that this pause will allow the company to reassess and strengthen its approach so it can return with a stronger and more sustainable product offering.
However, Coinbase assured users that crypto-to-crypto activity will continue and customer funds remain unaffected. Users will need to complete peso-based transactions before the cutoff.
In late January 2025, Coinbase received Virtual Asset Service Provider registration from Argentina's National Securities Commission, allowing it to provide services in a country where Coinbase estimated 5 million people use crypto daily.
