Coinbase Unveils AMEX Card for Coinbase One Members

Coinbase, one of the leading crypto exchanges in the world, announced on Wednesday that its Coinbase One Card is now open to U.S. customers who are, or become, Coinbase One members at $49.99 a year.

While announcing this on X,  Max Branzburg, head of consumer and business products, stated that the card offers up to 4% back in bitcoin on purchases. The product is open to users in the United States who have the Coinbase One plan.

Furthermore, the AMEX card doesn’t come with foreign transaction fees and allows users to pay their credit card bill either from a linked bank account or with crypto held on Coinbase. However, the crypto exchange added that the Bitcoin rewards do not appear on 1099 forms when earned, though taxes may apply if those rewards are later sold.

As a Bitcoin-focused card, Coinbase designed it to mirror Bitcoin’s properties. The physical card is etched with raw data from the Genesis Block, the first block created by Satoshi Nakamoto on Jan. 3, 2009.

This new product comes as Coinbase continues to expand its presence in the United States and beyond. Earlier this month, the crypto exchange applied for a U.S. National Trust Charter with the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) to bring its crypto operations under a single federal regulator.

Coinbase also partnered with JPMorgan Chase to enable Chase credit card holders to purchase cryptocurrency directly through its platform starting this fall.
